Thank you
Year created: 2025 Media: Printed paper and envelope Commercially made ‘thank you’ cards are an oddly American phenomenon, with an inviting image on the front and a note of gratitude on the inside. I wanted to take a look at this gesture on the geopolitical scale, how it functions, and what its consequences are. To do that, I created thank-you cards, which were gifted to the audience at random throughout the show. While giving the cards, I would thank the receiver and leave. The text on the cards traces back to the Oval Office meeting in early March 2025, where the Ukrainian president was asked if he had expressed gratitude ‘even once’. The imagery on the inside of the card is five pictures layered on top of each other showing Kyiv buildings after being bombed by the Russians.
